California Wire Buyers purchases usable surplus cable and scrap copper throughout San Diego County, California. Our wire buyers serving San Diego review lab-buildout leftovers, documented marine stock and project reels from their labels and condition. For sellers comparing surplus wire buyers and copper wire buyers in San Diego, keeping unused inventory separate from pulled wire is a useful starting point.
San Diego wire buyers for lab and facility closeouts
Sorrento Valley and Torrey Pines have life-science and research facilities, reflected in the City's Sorrento Valley development records. Lab fit-outs can leave MC coils, fire alarm reels and structured cabling after layout or equipment changes. Keep those product families distinct when listing a closeout lot.
For MC, retain the coil wrap or reel label showing size and conductor count. Low-voltage stock needs more than a red jacket or a box labeled data cable. Sealed packaging and known footage can matter more to reusable value than the small amount of copper in signal conductors.
With fire alarm cable, capture FPL, FPLR or FPLP and the shield designation. FPLP is a plenum marking, not proof of a two-hour circuit-integrity system. Do not describe all lab fire alarm stock as one interchangeable specification.
The Cat6 and data cable page covers category, copper construction and CMR/CMP identification. An opened pull box can still contain unused cable, but the original 1000 ft package label does not prove the remaining length. Tell us about rewinding, water exposure or cable already pulled through a building.
Shipyard and defense inventory needs precise documentation
San Diego's manufacturing base includes defense, shipbuilding and ship repair. A shipyard lot may contain tinned-copper power cable, armored cable or specialized shipboard controls. Small-craft boat wire and commercial shipboard cable should not be grouped under a single marine specification.
Send the actual manufacturer part number and any IEEE 45, UL 1309 or Type P identification present. Silver-colored strands may be tinned copper rather than aluminum. Our armored cable information helps distinguish an outer jacket and armor from the conductor construction inside.
We do not buy military or agency property without documented authority to sell it. A subcontractor's possession of spare material is not enough by itself. Identify the owner, the releasing organization and the authorized seller before moving material out of a controlled site.
California also requires agency-letterhead certification for specified agency-owned or formerly agency-owned infrastructure under BPC Section 21609.1. Documentation requirements depend on the material and transaction. This legal overview is not legal advice or a substitute for the agency's disposition process.
Otay Mesa stock stays within our California buying area
Otay Mesa's border location supports manufacturing and logistics activity. The City's community planning documents identify industrial uses there, including manufacturing and logistics facilities. Equipment changes can leave control cable, feeder cuts and portable cable alongside unused warehouse inventory.
| Otay Mesa inventory description | Identification needed | Location question |
|---|---|---|
| Manufacturing spare reel | Part number, conductor count and shield | Is the stock in a California facility? |
| Warehouse feeder remnant | CU or AL, size, voltage and length | Which dock or yard holds the reel? |
| Returned or transferred stock | Actual product label and ownership record | Who is authorized to release it? |
| Cut copper from equipment removal | Cable type and separate scrap quantity | Is it staged away from reusable reels? |
We buy in California only, not across the international border. Provide the actual storage address rather than a regional office address. If stock has changed owners or locations, preserve the transfer documents and identify which labels still match the cable on the reel.
Solar and battery leftovers east of the coastal corridor
County records identify solar and battery development near Jacumba in southeastern San Diego County. The California Energy Commission's project records also document proposed solar and storage in Imperial County. Neither record establishes available surplus.
For your own surplus, list 10 and 12 AWG string wire separately from large home-run conductors. Our PV wire buying information explains why PV Wire markings and actual voltage matter. USE-2 alone does not establish a UL 4703 PV Wire product.
Battery-project leftovers may include ordinary power and control cable, not one universal battery cable type. Keep the project inventory and reel IDs available. The solar project surplus page addresses grouped closeout lots without treating project origin as proof of cable construction.
Coastal storage changes the condition questions
Tell us if reels were stored near salt air, on a waterfront laydown area or in an exposed yard. Photograph corrosion, damaged wrapping, wet labels and exposed ends. Do not assume a clean outer jacket establishes the internal condition of the cable.
Document indoor versus outdoor storage and any known flooding or prolonged water exposure. Original end seals are especially important on moisture-sensitive products. A damp wooden reel, a water-damaged pull box and wet medium-voltage ends are different issues and should not receive one general condition description.
Pickup planning across North County, city and South Bay
We serve Oceanside, Carlsbad, Vista, San Marcos, Escondido and Poway, plus Kearny Mesa, Miramar and Otay Mesa. Chula Vista, National City, El Cajon and Santee are also covered. Our statewide service-area hub explains coverage beyond the county.
A North County shop and a South Bay dock require different route planning. Give us the city and loading entrance before requesting a collection window.
At labs, business campuses or defense facilities, ask whether visitor approval, escorts or vehicle details are required. Confirm where the material can be staged and whether a forklift is available. SDG&E is regional utility context only; we do not imply a relationship with the utility or authority to sell its property.
What to send for a San Diego cable offer
Submit labels and access requirements through the wire offer form, keeping laboratory and marine products on separate inventory lines.
- Photograph lab-cable labels showing plenum/riser type and manufacturer part numbers.
- Include MC conductor counts and distinguish unopened coils from removed cable.
- Show complete marine legends, armor and any tinned-copper identification.
- List PV reel sizes, actual voltage and remaining continuous lengths by reel ID.
- Describe waterfront or outdoor storage and photograph any corrosion or end damage.
- Identify the California loading address, security contact and vehicle-entry requirements.
- Supply ownership releases and flag government, agency or utility markings for review.
Keep scrap and usable stock identifiable before collection
We can evaluate used insulated copper, stripped wire and bare scrap alongside unused reels. Keep aluminum, armor-heavy material and small signal-wire scrap identified separately. The shipping weight of a mixed bin does not establish its copper content.
Our offer and the agreed payment method and timing are put in writing before pickup. Applicable California scrap requirements include seller and material records, with photos and a thumbprint where required. Confirm those details before committing to a site-clearance deadline; California selling requirements explain the legal distinctions in more depth.
Common questions
Can a San Diego lab offer fire alarm and data cable together?
Yes, but identify each product separately instead of describing the lot as low-voltage cable. Send the fire alarm type, AWG, conductor count and shielding information. For network cable, include category, riser or plenum marking, part number and footage. Note whether boxes remain sealed and whether the cable was ever pulled. Lab access rules and ownership release also need to be resolved before collecting material from an occupied facility.
Will you review unused shipboard cable from a defense contractor?
We can review an identified, lawfully owned lot, but a defense-contractor location does not establish title. Send the original manufacturer description, shipboard specification, length and available ownership documents. We do not buy military or agency property without documented authorization. Specialized marine approvals also do not automatically establish suitability for a building installation; any later buyer or end user must verify the actual product and intended application.
Should we move an Imperial Valley solar lot to San Diego first?
Not without discussing the original storage location and transport requirements with us. We pick up statewide, so an extra move may not be needed. Send separate inventories if some reels are in Imperial Valley and others are already at a San Diego shop. Identify gross weights, end protection and loading access at both sites. We can then discuss a collection arrangement without assuming that moving everything west improves the offer.
