We buy usable surplus reels and scrap copper wire across Los Angeles County, California. As wire buyers serving Los Angeles, we review both contractor leftovers and specialty cable from production or industrial work. If you need copper wire buyers or surplus wire buyers in Los Angeles, send identification photos before arranging loading access.
Los Angeles wire buyers: separate job leftovers by source
A tenant-improvement closeout can contain untouched THHN spools beside cut demolition wire. We evaluate those as different materials, not one mixed copper pile. Partial reels can still be unused, while clean-looking pulled cable has a service history that needs disclosure.
Los Angeles County's economic development plan identifies entertainment, aerospace, manufacturing and trade as important industries. Those settings call for different cable descriptions. A production-power bundle needs a different review from office branch wire or a plant's shielded control stock.
We come to you; there is no LA neighborhood storefront to visit. See our California pickup coverage for the wider service area. We plan county pickups around the actual inventory and loading location rather than quoting a fixed travel time from our base.
Tower renovations and tenant-improvement remnants
Commercial fit-outs and floor reconfigurations can leave branch-circuit colors, unopened coils and feeder remnants that no longer match the next job. Keep THHN and THWN-2 building wire grouped by conductor size, factory color and remaining continuous footage. A 12 AWG spool is not interchangeable with a 4/0 feeder remnant.
For metal-clad MC cable, record the circuit conductor count and ground information as well as size. A tag reading 12/2 with ground does not mean two total wires. Save the package identification; ordinary unjacketed MC may not have a readable outer print legend.
Do not combine new MC coils with crushed armor or pulled-out lengths. A building owner or general contractor may own leftovers even when an electrical subcontractor stored them. Our contractor surplus guidance explains the ownership-release question without treating possession as permission to sell.
Film, television and live-event power cable
Production shops and event crews may have bulk cord, generator leads or banded feeder sections. Describe SOOW and other portable power cable by its actual marking, conductor count and AWG size. Bulk reels, fitted cord sets and short damaged sections should appear as separate inventory lines.
DLO and welding cable also need separate identification. The welding and DLO cable guide explains their different constructions and markings. DLO commonly uses tinned copper, so silver-colored strands do not establish aluminum content.
Banded cable is a grouping description, not proof of DLO, Type W or any particular rating. Photograph the print on each different conductor type. Note splices, connector condition, jacket cuts and whether several short sections were wound onto one reel; combined footage is not necessarily one reusable length.
Port-area facilities and manufacturing stock
The ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach anchor the county's trade activity. The County also identifies the Gateway area as a warehousing, logistics and manufacturing concentration. Facility changes in these settings can produce surplus feeders, tray cable, motor-drive cable and controls inventory.
| Source of the offered lot | Cable to identify | Detail that changes the review |
|---|---|---|
| Warehouse electrical change | Copper or aluminum feeders | Metal, size, voltage and continuous length |
| Conveyor or equipment modification | Tray and VFD cable | Complete type legend, shield and ground arrangement |
| Aerospace or manufacturing storeroom | Control and instrumentation stock | Manufacturer part number, pairs or conductor count |
| Production-power inventory cleanup | Flexible single-conductor cable | Printed construction, section lengths and repairs |
For a large feeder, preserve a size such as 500 kcmil (MCM) exactly as printed. Do not substitute gross reel weight for copper weight. Insulation, armor and the package contribute to the truck load without being conductor copper.
We assess specialty inventory from the label and condition, not from an industry name alone. An aerospace origin does not automatically establish reusable condition, certification or a ready resale application.
Loading windows matter more than a curbside pin
LA freeway congestion can affect pickup timing, and the final loading approach can be just as important. Tell us whether the receiving entrance differs from the building's mailing address. A dock reservation must allow for the agreed handling arrangement, not simply truck arrival.
Ask your property manager about freight elevators, escorts, loading appointments and restrictions on staging reels. Share height or turning limits before proposing a vehicle. If material must move from an upper floor, identify who is responsible for that move.
Public curb space is not a substitute for an approved loading plan. LADOT's colored-curb rules distinguish commercial loading from passenger loading and prohibit stopping at red curbs. Check posted restrictions at the actual site; rules elsewhere in the county may differ from the City of Los Angeles.
Public works wire requires an ownership check
Transit, streetlighting and other public works can involve agency-owned cable. We do not purchase public or utility property without the required authorization. LADWP and Southern California Edison are local utility context only; naming either does not imply an affiliation or buying relationship.
For covered material owned or previously owned by an agency, BPC Section 21609.1 requires certification on the agency's letterhead. A contractor invoice does not automatically replace that certification. Keep identifying marks visible and explain the disposition authority before pickup discussions proceed.
For scrap copper, we follow applicable identification, photo, thumbprint, record and payment requirements. Offers, payment method and timing are confirmed in writing before collection. Our California copper-selling rules provide a broader summary; this is not legal advice.
What to send with an LA County offer request
Use our offer request page to provide a lot description tied to the specific building or yard. Include access information at the same time as product photos so a promising reel is not scheduled against an unusable loading window.
- Show THHN spool tags and colors separately from MC coil labels.
- Photograph production cable print, fitted ends and any banded grouping.
- List individual section lengths rather than one total for several cut leads.
- Capture industrial cable part numbers, shielding descriptions and conductor counts.
- Identify the building floor, staging point and freight-elevator arrangements.
- Provide the dock entrance, posted restrictions and property contact's approved window.
- State who can release the lot, including agency documentation where relevant.
County coverage from the coast to the northern valleys
We cover Downtown, the Westside, South Bay, Long Beach, the Gateway Cities, San Fernando Valley and San Gabriel Valley. Santa Clarita and the Antelope Valley are also within our pickup area.
Give the storage community even when your office is elsewhere. Material split between a production shop, job-site cage and warehouse should have three location entries. Each entrance and release contact needs to match the inventory being offered there.
Common questions
Can you collect partial reels from an occupied Downtown LA tower?
We can discuss pickup from an occupied building, but the loading plan must be approved before scheduling. Tell us the floor, freight-elevator dimensions, dock entrance and reservation window. Identify who can release the wire and move it to the agreed loading point. A street address alone does not establish truck access, and we cannot assume passenger elevators or public curb space are available for reel handling.
How should an LA production shop describe banded feeder cable?
List the number of individual conductors, each cable's printed type and size, and the continuous length of every section. Include connector photos if ends are fitted. Banded describes how the conductors are grouped, not a complete electrical specification. Show wear, repairs and missing identification. Do not describe a mixed bundle as DLO solely because it was used with a generator or on a production.
Does LA County coverage include the Antelope Valley?
Yes, our coverage includes the Antelope Valley as well as the county's coastal and central areas. A collection there needs its own location and loading review rather than being treated as a quick extension of a Downtown stop. Send the storage city, inventory photos, reel dimensions and removal deadline. We will discuss the route and equipment requirements before confirming the pickup arrangement.
