California Wire Buyers

Wire Brands We Buy: Manufacturer and Legacy Labels

Identify manufacturer names, legacy labels and distributor tags on surplus wire. We assess the exact cable, continuous footage and condition first.

The wire brands we buy in California include familiar building-wire manufacturers, industrial cable makers and legacy names on older surplus reels. We assess unused full and partial reels as products, while used or damaged copper may belong in our scrap buying category.

Wire brands we buy: names and product families

Use the name on the actual reel or cable rather than updating it from memory. Manufacturer names help locate technical information, but they do not tell us the full size, rating, condition or ownership history. The table separates common product associations from distributor identification.

Name on records or packaging Factual product association Useful evidence to include
Southwire Building wire, service cable, MC, utility and industrial products Product number, exact type and reel tag
Encore Wire Copper/aluminum building wire, NM-B, MC and service cable Metal, size/count and original package
Cerrowire Building wire, NM-B/UF-B and footage-marked master reels Jacket legend, color and footage records
Prysmian / General Cable Power, industrial, flexible and communications cable families Actual brand, catalog number and construction
Okonite Medium-voltage and industrial power cable Voltage, insulation level and shield details
Kerite Medium-voltage power cable Full legend and original technical records
AFC Cable Systems / Atkore Armored and metal-clad cable families AC/MC type and grounding construction
United Copper Industries Legacy copper building wire and metal-clad cable name Original UCI label and matching cable print
Houston Wire & Cable Wire and cable distributor, not every product's manufacturer Distributor item number plus original mill identification

These are product associations, not claims that each name covers every construction or size. Our wire and cable catalog organizes the material by actual type when the brand alone is not enough.

Building-wire labels: Southwire, Encore and Cerrowire

Southwire

Southwire's product families include THHN/THWN-2, XHHW-2, service-entrance cable and MC, along with utility and industrial cable. SIMpull appears on several of its products. Romex-brand NM-B is also a Southwire product; NM-B remains the generic cable designation.

A seller looking to sell Southwire wire should send the product number with the reel tag. A brand mark does not establish whether a particular conductor is copper or aluminum, or whether a reel contains the same product it originally carried.

Encore Wire

Encore supplies familiar copper and aluminum building-wire families, including residential cable, service cable and single conductors. Its NM-B and UF-B products illustrate why similar-looking jackets need exact type identification. Those are different cable constructions, not interchangeable names for residential leftovers.

When you sell Encore Wire inventory, keep the original size/count notation and metal identification together. We use the same product-level review for a sealed package and an opened remnant, while recording their different conditions.

Cerrowire

Cerrowire is associated with building wire and residential cable, including THHN/THWN-2. Its True Sequential Footage system uses a specific original-reel marking convention on qualifying master reels. That convention should not be assumed for rewound cable or another manufacturer's product.

For Cerrowire surplus, show the remaining footage evidence and color alongside the tag. Our THHN buying details cover the construction information needed beyond the manufacturer's name.

Power and industrial cable: Prysmian, Okonite and Kerite

Prysmian and General Cable names appear across power, industrial, flexible and communications families. Legacy labels can also carry related names such as Carol or Draka. Record the actual printed brand and product description; do not replace them with a broad corporate label on your inventory sheet.

Okonite is a manufacturer of medium-voltage and industrial power cable. Its medium-voltage catalog documents constructions where insulation, shielding and voltage are central identifiers. A familiar Okonite name cannot resolve those details without the full product legend.

Kerite is another verified medium-voltage cable name. For either Kerite or Okonite reels, send the insulation description, voltage class, conductor metal and end condition. Our medium-voltage cable page explains the records that distinguish one shielded construction from another.

AFC, Atkore and legacy United Copper inventory

AFC Cable Systems appears within Atkore's armored and metal-clad cable families. Identify the product as AC, MC or another marked construction rather than treating the company name as a wiring type. AFC healthcare cable can have a different grounding arrangement from ordinary branch MC.

Keep product names such as HCF-Lite or MC-Luminary in the description when present. Our MC cable buying page covers conductor counts and identification, but the actual tag determines whether the item belongs in that category.

United Copper Industries is a legacy name associated with copper building wire and metal-clad cable. Southwire's acquisition account confirms those product families. Original UCI tags can therefore provide useful context for older inventory without proving its present condition or listing.

Distributor tags and exact specifications matter more

Houston Wire & Cable is a distributor, not the original maker of every reel carrying its sales label. A distributor tag and an original manufacturer tag can both be useful. Preserve both rather than discarding one because the names differ.

The same caution applies to reused reels. A flange stencil may identify the reel's earlier contents rather than the cable now wound on it. Match packaging information with actual jacket print and purchase records using our reel-tag identification guide.

We compare exact specifications, usable continuous footage and condition before assigning surplus value. Brand recognition does not outweigh damaged insulation, uncertain length or wet MV ends. Buyers and end users must independently verify suitability for any intended installation.

Brand-specific records to send with your lot

An inventory organized by manufacturer and part number is helpful for distributor overstock wire, especially when several labels describe similar products. Include the physical condition of each line item, not only its catalog description.

  • Photograph the manufacturer logo and complete original product label.
  • Record catalog numbers separately from distributor stock numbers.
  • Keep legacy names exactly as shown, including General Cable or UCI.
  • Show cable print that matches the label's size, metal and type.
  • Include original listing or certification information on the smallest package.
  • Identify relabeled, rewound or returned reels and any conflicting descriptions.
  • List continuous footage and package counts by specific product number.
  • Provide invoices or disposition records, the California location and storage history.

We are not affiliated with these manufacturers or distributors; trademarks belong to their respective owners. Names on this page identify products we evaluate, not endorsement, authorized-dealer status or a guarantee of acceptance. Keep warnings, original labels and ownership documentation with the material during review.

Common questions

Can an older General Cable label still help identify surplus?

Yes. A legacy manufacturer or brand name is useful identification, especially when the part number, construction and production information remain readable. Do not replace the old label with a newer corporate name. Send the actual tag and matching jacket print so the product can be checked. The name alone does not establish current certification, condition or suitability for installation.

Is Houston Wire & Cable the manufacturer of everything it supplied?

No. Houston Wire & Cable is a distributor name, and distributor records can identify stock sourced from different manufacturers. Include the original mill label, jacket legend and product number if available. A distributor's item number can still help connect purchase records with a reel, but it should not be treated as proof of the original manufacturer by itself.

Does a familiar wire brand guarantee a surplus offer?

No manufacturer name guarantees an offer or a particular valuation. We review the actual specification, continuous footage, condition, ownership and location. Missing ratings or damaged insulation can matter more than a recognizable name. Conversely, an unfamiliar label can still deserve review when the cable is fully identified and supporting product records are available.
